# Pick up a certificate you haven't finished

> A certificate you started but haven't signed off sits as a draft against the job, the client and the property. Tap it from any of them and it opens straight back into the form where you left it.

Not every certificate gets finished in one go. You start a legionella assessment at the property, run out of time, and pick it up back at the van or the next morning. A certificate you haven't signed off is a **draft**, and it stays exactly where you left it.

## Where your drafts are

A draft sits against everything it's linked to, so you can get at it from wherever you happen to be:

- On the **job**, under **Paperwork**
- On the **client's** record, under **Paperwork**
- On the **property**, in the certificates list
- On [**Certificates**](/gas-certs), with the rest of them

Tap it from any of those and it opens the form, on the page you were on, with everything you'd already put in. Carry on and sign it off when you're done.

## Draft or Issued

Every certificate on those lists carries one of three words:

- **Draft** — still yours to change. Nothing has gone to anybody.
- **Issued** — signed off. This is the document the customer has, whether you've emailed it yet or not.
- **Superseded** — replaced by a corrected version. Kept on record, because it really was issued at the time.

Tapping an **Issued** one shows you the document itself rather than the form — it's a look at what the customer got, and the way out is to close it. That's deliberate: an issued certificate is a signed record and shouldn't be quietly edited. If something on it is wrong, [issue a correction](/help/gas-certs/issue-a-cp12-from-a-job) rather than changing the original.

## Binning one you don't need

Started the wrong type, or opened one twice? Open the draft and tap the **bin** on the left of the bar at the bottom. Mucka asks *"Delete this draft?"* — tap **Yes** and it's gone, from the list and off your phone, along with any photos you'd taken on it.

Only drafts. Once a certificate is signed off it's a legal record, so the bin isn't there any more — if something on it is wrong, issue a correction instead.

A draft you started with no signal is only on your phone, so the bin works there and then. For one the office has already got, Mucka won't tell you it's gone until the server has actually let it go — so that one needs a bar of signal.

## Common gotchas

- **A draft opened as a PDF instead of the form.** That was a bug, fixed on 5 September 2026 — drafts were being shown the same read-only view as issued certificates, with a Save as PDF button and no way through to editing. Drafts now go straight to the form from every list. If you still see it, pull down to refresh.
- **A finished certificate saying "Draft".** Also fixed the same day. Certificates you'd signed off and sent were being labelled Draft on the job and client paperwork lists. The certificates themselves were never affected — only the word next to them — and they now read **Issued**.
- **You can't find the draft at all.** Check you're on the right job. A certificate started from a job is linked to that job, and if the visit was logged against a different one it'll be filed there instead. [Certificates](/gas-certs) lists every one on the account, drafts included.
- **Someone else started it.** Drafts aren't private — anyone on your team with certificate access can pick one up and finish it.
