> Mucka starts with the basics. Skills are the extra bits — certificates, live map, revenue reports — that you turn on when you need them and off when you do not.

Mucka starts you off with the basics — clients, jobs, the diary, quotes and invoices. Everything else is a **skill**, and you switch it on when you want it.

That is on purpose. A gas firm and a general builder do not need the same screens, and there is nothing worse than a menu full of things that are not yours. Off skills are not hidden away somewhere — they are simply not there.

## Where the skills page is

**Skills** is in the menu down the left, near the bottom. On your phone it is in the menu behind your name.

If you are new, Mucka will send you there once with a sheet that says **Everything you need, nothing you don't**. Tap **Go to skills** and you land on the same page.

## Switching one on

Each skill has a tile with a short line about what it does. Tap it, and you get the full description before you commit to anything.

<Section title="Available">
Everything you can switch on right now. Tap **Install** and the button turns to **Installed** with a tick. The new pages appear in your menu straight away.

Some skills ask you one question first: which of your roles should be able to see it. Pick, or take the sensible defaults, and Mucka sets the permissions up for you.
</Section>

<Section title="Early access">
Built and working, but going to a handful of firms first so we can watch it in real use before everyone gets it. Tap **Request access** and we will be in touch. You are not joining a waiting list nobody reads — it opens a real ticket.
</Section>

<Section title="Coming soon">
Being built. You cannot turn these on yet, and they are listed so you know what is on the way rather than to tease you.
</Section>

Some skills need another one first — **Gas Calculators** only makes sense alongside **Gas Certificates**, because the whole point is the heat input landing on the certificate instead of being typed twice. When that is the case Mucka says so before anything happens, and offers to set the other one up first and then add yours on top.

## Switching one off

Same page, same tile. Tap **Installed** and it comes back off.

Nothing is deleted. The screens disappear from your menu and your data stays exactly where it is, so switching a skill back on later brings everything with it. Try one for a fortnight and drop it if it is not for you.

## Who can do this

The owner, and anyone whose role includes **manage skills**. Engineers cannot, which is deliberate — a skill changes what the whole firm sees, not just the person tapping.

If you are the owner and someone on your team needs to be able to do it, you can build a role with that permission in [**Settings → Team → Roles**](/settings/team/roles). See [Change someone's role](/help/settings/change-someones-role).

## If a skill is on but you cannot see it

Check your role first — a skill only shows up for the roles it was given when it was installed, which is what that one question at install time was for. If you are the owner and it still is not there, tell us in [**Settings → Support**](/settings/support/support) and we will sort it out. It is not something you should have to work around.
