> Connect Mailchimp so your customers go to a Mailchimp audience and stay up to date, ready for you to email them offers, service plan promotions and newsletters.

Mucka doesn't send marketing emails itself, but it can keep your customer list in Mailchimp for you. Connect Mailchimp and every customer with an email address goes to a Mailchimp audience. After that, customers you add or change in Mucka follow on their own. You write and send the emails in Mailchimp, which handles unsubscribes.

You'll need a paid Mucka plan and a Mailchimp account. Only someone who can manage the workspace can connect it.

## Connect it

1. Open [**Settings → Integrations → Marketing → Mailchimp**](/settings/connections/integrations?sub=mailchimp) and press **Connect Mailchimp**.
2. Sign in to Mailchimp and press **Allow**. You're brought back to Mucka.
3. Pick the **audience** your customers should go to. If you haven't got one yet, create it in Mailchimp first.
4. Check the fields Mucka says it will add to the audience (see below), then turn on **These are my existing customers**. UK rules let you email people who have bought from you, as long as every email lets them unsubscribe, and Mailchimp adds that link to every campaign.
5. Press **Send customers to Mailchimp**. They start arriving straight away. A long list can take a few minutes.

## Who is sent

Only clients filed as **customers** with an email address. These are left out:

- suppliers, trade contacts, leads and anyone filed as "other"
- subcontractors
- duplicates you've merged into another client
- anyone you've set to get no automatic messages

For a business customer, Mucka sends the **Company email** and **Company phone** shown on the client.

Somebody who has already unsubscribed in Mailchimp stays unsubscribed. Mucka never signs anybody back up.

## What each contact carries

- Their first name, last name and phone number. If your audience's phone field only takes US numbers, the contact goes in without the phone number. To include it, set the field to the international format in Mailchimp.
- Their **company** name (commercial customers) and **postcode**. The postcode is their billing one, or their main property's if the billing address hasn't got one.
- Three dates: **Last job** (the last job you completed for them), **Service due** (their next service reminder, even if it's overdue) and **Plan renews** (when their service plan comes up for renewal). Dates show the UK way round, day first.
- Tags you can pick out in Mailchimp: **Mucka** on everyone sent, **Residential** or **Commercial**, and **Service plan** while they're on one of your plans. So you can email a plan offer to residential customers who aren't on a plan yet.

With those you can build a segment in Mailchimp such as "Service due is before 1 December", or "Postcode starts with BS5".

## The fields Mucka adds to your audience

When you pick the audience, Mucka lists the fields it will add that the audience hasn't got: **Company**, **Postcode**, **Last job**, **Service due**, **Plan renews** and **Mucka reference**, plus **Phone** if the audience has no phone field at all. **Mucka reference** is a code that gives each customer their own sign-up link when you [email them a plan](/help/service-plans/email-a-plan-to-your-customers). Leave it as it is. It adds them when you press **Send customers to Mailchimp**. They aren't shown on your Mailchimp sign-up form.

Mucka only ever adds fields. It never changes, renames or removes one that's already in your audience. If your audience already has one of those fields as a different kind (a Company dropdown, say), Mucka leaves it alone and doesn't fill it in.

Mailchimp limits how many fields an audience can have. If there isn't room for one, Mucka sends everything else and the Mailchimp page in Settings says which field is missing. Remove a field you don't use in Mailchimp, then press **Change audience** and pick the same audience again.

If you connected Mailchimp before Mucka added these fields, they're added on the next update (within ten minutes) and every customer is sent again once with the new details. Nobody who unsubscribed is signed back up.

## Email a service plan from Mucka

To promote one of your service plans, you don't need to build the email in Mailchimp. Mucka writes it, sends you a test and sends it through your Mailchimp to the customers who aren't on a plan yet. See [**Email a plan to your customers**](/help/service-plans/email-a-plan-to-your-customers).

## Keeping it up to date

New and changed customers are sent every ten minutes. So is anyone whose job you've just completed, whose service reminder moved, or whose plan started, renewed or ended, so the dates stay right. If you correct someone's email address in Mucka, their Mailchimp contact moves to the new address instead of a second one being added.

Nothing comes back from Mailchimp into Mucka. If somebody unsubscribes, Mailchimp keeps track of it, and it's Mailchimp you send from.

If Mailchimp turns down an address, usually because it looks mistyped or the person asked never to be added again, the Mailchimp page in Settings says how many. Correct the address on the customer and it's sent again.

## Change the audience or disconnect

Press **Change audience** to send your customers to a different one. The old audience keeps its contacts. Picking the same audience again sends everyone again once, which fills in any field you've just made room for.

Press **Disconnect** to stop sending. The contacts already in Mailchimp stay there.
