> List what each van should carry, count it every week or two, and see what to buy to top it up on the morning pick-up list.

Most vans carry the same fittings, valves and consumables week in, week out. Van stock is a list of what each van should carry, a quick count every so often, and a list of what to buy to top it back up.

Mucka doesn't try to keep a running total from every job. **The count is the truth.** Whatever you counted is what's on the van, until the next count.

## Switch it on

Van stock comes with the **Parts & Van Stock** skill. Go to **Mucka Skills**, then **Parts & Van Stock**, and install it. When it asks what you want to keep track of, tick **Van stock**.

If you already have the skill for parts on jobs, go to [**Settings, then Work, then Parts**](/settings/work/parts) and tick **Van stock** there. That's also where you choose how often a van is due a count: every week, every two weeks or every month.

## Set up a van

Owners and managers do this, on the **Vans** tab of the [**Parts**](/parts?tab=vans) page.

1. Tap **Add a van**. Give it a name you'll recognise, like *Transit 1* or the reg, and say **who drives it**.
2. Tap **Set up the list** and add what it should carry. For each item put in:
   - **Carry**: how many the van should have when it's fully stocked.
   - **Top up below** (optional): only top up when it drops under this. Leave it blank to top up whenever it's under what it should carry.
   - **Unit** (optional), like *box of 10* or *3m length*.
   - **Where from** (optional), like the merchant you get it from. The morning pick-up list groups what to buy by this.
3. Put the list in the order you walk the van, with the arrows, so counting it is quick.

If your vans carry much the same, set one up and use **Copy from another van** on the next. Anything the van already has is left alone.

If you can see the price list, start typing an item and pick it from your price list. Mucka then shows roughly what a top-up costs. Nobody else sees a price.

## Count a van

Whoever drives the van counts it, on their phone. When it's due, they'll see **Van count due** on their home screen and in their morning briefing.

1. Open **Parts** from the menu. If you drive the van, it's under **Your van**; owners and managers open the **Vans** tab. Tap **Count this van**.
2. Go down the list and put in how many of each are there. The **+** and **−** buttons work too. Every figure saves as you go, so you can stop and carry on later.
3. Tap **Finish count**.

Anything you leave blank stays **not counted**. It never counts as zero, so skipping the back shelf doesn't put one of everything on the shopping list. To say there are none, put in 0.

You can also count by telling Mucka, by chat, WhatsApp, voice or on the phone:

> *"Counting the van. 15mm elbows, 6. 22mm elbows, 4. PTFE, 3."*

Mucka matches what you say to the van's list and reads back anything it couldn't match, so nothing is guessed. Say *"finish the count"* when you're done.

## What to buy

Once a count is finished, anything under its figure goes on the van's restock list, with how many to buy to get back to what it should carry.

The list joins the driver's **morning pick-up list**, grouped by merchant alongside any parts for that day's jobs:

- on their **home screen** on their phone
- in their **WhatsApp morning briefing**

Tick an item when you've bought it and it comes off the list. Ticking it doesn't change the count. The next count does.

On the **Vans** tab itself, each van shows its own top-up as one list in the order you walk the van, each line saying how many are on the van and where it comes from, and, if you can see the price list, roughly what the lot costs.

Engineers see the van they drive and nothing else. Owners and managers see every van on the Vans tab.

Owners and managers also see a **Van** section on each team member's page, under **Team**: the van they drive, when it was last counted, whether a count is due or under way, and how many things are short. On a phone, tap the van to open it; on a computer, **Open the Vans tab** takes you to the Vans tab of the Parts page.

## On a phone with the new look

On a phone with the new look switched on, open **Parts** and tap **Van stock**. It starts with a card of what to buy across all your vans, roughly what it costs, a bar showing how many vans are counted, being counted, due a count or have no list yet, and the one thing to do next, like **Count Transit 1**. The vans are grouped **Due a count**, **Counting**, **Counted** and **No list yet**. How often a van is due a count is behind the cog at the top, and **+** adds a van.

Tap a van to open its own page. Its top-up is grouped by where each item comes from, so you can tick things off merchant by merchant, and under it is everything the van should carry. **Count this van** is at the bottom of the screen; owners and managers also get a pencil there to edit the list.

The count opens as its own page, with **Finish count** at the bottom and a bin to throw the count away (Mucka asks first). The list is edited on its own page too: tap an item to change it in a small sheet, use the arrows to put it in the order you walk the van, and **Copy from another van** and **Archive this van** are underneath.

## What it doesn't do

Van stock doesn't take parts off the count when they're fitted on a job, raise purchase orders, order from the merchant or scan barcodes. Buy the top-up the way you do now and tick it off in Mucka.
