# Say what a price includes (detail under a line) Source: https://help.mucka.ai/quotes/add-detail-under-a-line-item Category: Quotes Last updated: 2026-09-09 > Put a few lines under any priced item spelling out what the customer gets for it, so a big number doesn't have to be taken on trust. "Complete re-fit of bathroom — £5,000" is a fair price and a terrible quote. The customer has nothing to weigh it against, so they either ring you to ask what's in it or they ring someone else. Detail fixes that. Under any priced line you can add a few lines saying what that price covers, and they print on the quote underneath the description, in smaller type: > **Complete re-fit of bathroom** — £5,000 > - Remove existing bathroom suite > - Supply and install new suite (bath, shower, toilet and basin with fitted furniture, new mirror, tiles and flooring) > - Removal of all waste from site > - Price includes all materials and labour Same number. Very different quote. ## Adding it On any line item in a quote or invoice you'll see a small **Add detail** link, just under the description box. Tap it and a box opens. If you're working on the keyboard, **Tab** from the description lands on that link and **Enter** opens it — see [typing a quote without the mouse](/help/quotes/type-a-quote-with-the-keyboard). Type one point per line. Put your own dashes in if you want them — Mucka prints exactly what you type, so the layout is yours. There's room for about 1,000 characters, which is far more than most lines need. That's it. Save the quote and the detail is on it. Next to **Add detail** you'll see **Add a picture**, which does the visual half of the same job — see [putting photos on a quote](/help/quotes/put-a-photo-on-a-quote). If the line came off your price list and that item has a photo, it's already on there and the link says **Use a different picture** instead. ## Ask Mucka to write it You don't have to type it out. Ask: > *"Put the detail under the bathroom line on Kieth West's quote."* > > *"Say what's included in the £5,000 line."* Mucka drafts it from what it can actually see — your notes on the linked job, or the description on the item in your [**price list**](/settings/money/price-list) — shows you the wording, and only writes it once you say yes. If there's nothing on record to go on, Mucka will say so and ask you what's included rather than making something up. That's deliberate. Detail goes on a document your customer might sign, so inventing "includes a 5-year warranty" would commit you to something you never offered. ## Mucka may bring it up first If you draft a quote with a big single-figure line and nothing explaining it, Mucka will mention it and offer to write the detail. You'll also sometimes see an **Add detail** card in your action list with the wording already drafted from your job notes. Either way you read it, edit it, and approve it. Nothing lands on a quote without your tap. ## Where it shows up Detail written on a line appears on: - The quote or invoice PDF - The preview and the print view - The online quote page, if you're using Live Quotes, so it's part of what your customer accepts And it follows the work along: - **Quote to invoice.** Convert an accepted quote and the detail comes with it. The customer agreed to that scope, so the invoice still states it. - **Your accounts.** If you're connected to Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent, the detail goes across underneath the line description. ## Worth knowing - **Detail is not the same as Notes.** The Notes box further down a quote is internal — it never prints. Detail always prints. If you're jotting something for yourself, use Notes. - **Most lines don't need it.** A £60 call-out explains itself. Detail earns its keep on the big lines, the ones where the customer is deciding whether to say yes. - **Once a quote is accepted, its lines are locked.** If the job changes after that, raise a variation rather than rewording what was agreed. - **Mid-job changes (variations) don't take detail yet.** Put the scope in the variation's own description for now.
