# Mark yourself as travelling

Every job now has a **Travelling** status, sat between Scheduled and In Progress. It means one thing: the engineer has set off and isn't there yet.

Before this, a job stayed on Scheduled right up until someone arrived, so a van that left twenty minutes ago looked identical to one still sat on the drive. The only way to tell was to ring and ask.

## Telling Mucka

The easiest way, and the one that works with your hands on the wheel:

> *"Just leaving now."*
>
> *"Heading to the Walker job."*

Mucka takes the next job on your list, sets it to Travelling, and tells you which one it picked. If it's guessed the wrong job, say which one you meant and it'll move it.

The same works for the rest of the day:

> *"Just arrived"* or *"on site"* sets it to In Progress.
>
> *"All done here"* sets it to Completed.

## Ask for directions and it offers

Asking for the route is usually the moment you set off, so Mucka offers to do both at once:

> *"Directions to my next job."*

> **Mucka:** *"That's Ryan Jones on Mill Road. Want me to mark you as travelling on that one?"*

> *"Go on then."*
>
> **Mucka:** *"Marked you as travelling — directions coming up now."*

Say no and you just get the directions; nothing changes on the job. It only asks when you're headed to a job — ask for a plain address and it won't, because there's no job to mark.

It asks **before** the maps app opens rather than after, because opening maps ends the conversation. Nothing opens until you've answered, so a "yes" always lands. On the phone that's the point: hands off the screen, eyes on the road.

### If the job isn't booked in

A job waiting on parts sits on **On Hold**, and going back with the parts is exactly when you want directions to it. Mucka doesn't refuse — it tells you where the job actually is, so you know what you're agreeing to:

> *"Directions to the Averinos boiler repair."*

> **Mucka:** *"That one's on hold at the moment. Want me to move it to travelling, or leave it as it is and just set off?"*

Same for a job still on New Job or Quoted. A job that's already **In Progress**, **Completed** or **Cancelled** won't be offered — you're either there already or it's finished — and Mucka says so rather than going quiet.

## Or tap it

Open the job on your phone, tap the status chip under the job title, and pick **Travelling** from the list.

Engineers and subcontractors can always change the status of a job they're on, even without permission to edit anything else about it.

## What the office sees

The job shows an amber **Travelling** pill everywhere it appears: the schedule, the jobs list, the engineer's card. No one has to ring round to find out who's moving.

## Telling the customer too

By default this is between you and the office. If you'd rather the customer heard it as well, [**Settings → Customers → Automatic messages**](/settings/customers/customer-messages) has an **On my way texts** switch: turn it on and every one of these sends the customer a short "we're on our way" as you set off. ## What else it doesn't change

Travelling is otherwise deliberately quiet. Marking it:

- **Doesn't start the clock.** Your arrival time is still recorded when you go to In Progress, so the On Time Tracker keeps comparing the time you promised against the time you actually got there. Marking Travelling early can't flatter your figures.
- **Doesn't free up the slot.** The job still holds its place in the diary, so Mucka won't offer that hour to a customer ringing in while you're driving to it.
- **Doesn't stop the late alerts.** If you're half an hour past the start time and still in the van, your boss still gets the heads-up. Being on the way isn't the same as being there.

## Common gotchas

- **Mucka picked the wrong job.** It takes the earliest job of yours today that isn't finished. If you did the morning call and never marked it Completed, that's the one it'll grab. Tell it which job you meant, or mark the earlier one done first.
- **Nothing booked in today.** If you've no outstanding jobs on your list, Mucka has nothing to update and will say so. Name the job and it'll set it.
- **You want to rename it.** [**Settings → Work → Job statuses**](/settings/work/job-statuses) lets you relabel it and change its colour, so call it "On the road" or "En route" if that's what your lads say. You can't delete it, and you can't change what it means to the rest of Mucka.
