> Rename Mucka just by asking, pick the voice and accent it speaks to you in, and set how friendly or formal it is. All per-user.

Mucka has a voice when you talk over chat audio, on the phone, or from the in-app mic. You pick which voice and accent Mucka uses, and your choice is just for you. Every person on your team picks their own, the owner's choice doesn't lock anyone else in.

## Renaming Mucka — just ask

If "Mucka" doesn't feel right, say so:

> *"Change your name to Dave."*
> *"Can I call you Sandy?"*

That's the whole job. It saves straight away and Mucka answers to it from that moment on, everywhere you talk to it. Up to 24 characters, and keep it sensible — you'll be saying it out loud all day. To go back, just say "call yourself Mucka again".

The name is **yours alone**. You could call yours "Sandy" and Marcus could call his "Dave", and neither of you changes the other.

You can also type it in on the settings page below if you'd rather.

## Where to set it

Head to [**Settings → Mucka → Voice & personality**](/settings/mucka/your-mucka). Working down the page:

1. **Pick a gender.** Tap **Male** or **Female**. The default is male.
2. **Pick a UK accent.** A map of the UK shows pickable regions (Cockney, Yorkshire, RP, Geordie, Welsh, Scottish, etc.). Tap one and Mucka plays a sample so you can hear it before saving.
3. **Optionally rename.** The same box you can set by just asking Mucka, above. Up to 24 characters.
4. **Personality.** Two sliders — see below.
5. **With your customers.** A separate setting for how Mucka writes to *your* customers. That one is for the whole business, not just you.

Hit save and the new voice is live everywhere you talk to Mucka.

## Personality — friendly or formal, cheeky or straight

Under **Personality** there are two sliders, each with a middle position they both start on:

- **Tone of voice** — Friendly ↔ Professional. Friendly talks to you like a mate; Professional keeps it businesslike.
- **Humour** — Cheeky ↔ Straight-laced. Cheeky allows a bit of banter where it fits; Straight-laced means no jokes.

Leave either one in the middle and Mucka carries on as it does today. Nudge one and it applies everywhere you talk to Mucka — the chat panel, voice, the phone and WhatsApp.

Like the voice and the name, this is **yours alone**. It never changes how Mucka speaks to anyone else on the team, and it never changes what Mucka writes to your customers — that's the separate setting below it on the same page.

Whatever you pick, it only ever changes the *manner*. It never changes the facts, and it won't make Mucka gloss over something you need to know.

## Why this is per-user

Voice is a personal preference. The owner might want RP, an engineer might want a Yorkshire voice that sounds like home. Mucka stores each user's pick separately.

The name and the personality are per-user too. You could call yours "Sandy" and have it professional and straight-laced, while Marcus calls his "Dave" and lets it have a laugh. Neither of you changes the other.

If you want to go further than the two sliders — "call me Mr Smith", "keep it to one line", "stop saying *on it*" — see [Tell Mucka how you like things](/help/settings/tell-mucka-how-you-like-things).

## Where the voice shows up

Anywhere Mucka speaks:

- **In-app voice chat** when you tap the mic
- **Phone calls** when you ring Mucka's number, or Mucka rings you
- **WhatsApp voice notes** when Mucka replies with audio (we send text by default, voice notes are coming)

It does NOT change the text replies you read in the chat or on WhatsApp. Those are just words on screen.

## Try before you save

Each accent tile plays a short sample on tap. Listen to a few before committing, regional accents can sound very different to how you imagine. There's also a replay button if you missed it.

## Common gotchas

- **Voice doesn't change immediately.** If you save a new voice but the next call still uses the old one, end the current voice session and start a new one. Active conversations finish on the voice they started on.
- **Custom name spelling.** If you pick an unusual name and Mucka mishears it as something else when you say it out loud, try a phonetic spelling instead (e.g. "Saandy" instead of "Sandy" if the short A confuses the recogniser).
- **Want a non-UK accent?** Not in the regional map yet. The catalogue is currently UK-only since that's where we are. Let us know if you'd like Irish, American or anything else.
