# Add or remove a job type

> Your job types are the work you do — each with a colour on the schedule and a default time. Add and remove them in Settings, or just ask Mucka.

Your **job types** are the kinds of work you do — Boiler Service, Gas Safety, Bathroom Fit-out. Each one carries a colour on the schedule and a default time, so booking one in doesn't mean filling in the same details every time.

Mucka sets up a starter list based on the trade you picked when you signed up. It's a guess, not a commitment — most people trim it.

## Just ask Mucka

Quickest way, and it works on WhatsApp too:

- "Add bathroom fit-outs as a job type"
- "Take the EICR one off my list, I'm not qualified for those"
- "Get rid of the oil boiler job type"

Only owners (and anyone else who can manage the workspace) can change the list.

## Or do it in Settings

Head to [**Settings → Work → Job types**](/settings/work/job-types).

- **Add** — the button at the top of the section. Name it, group it, pick how long you'd normally book, choose an icon.
- **Edit** — the pencil on any row, for changing the name, the default time or the colour.
- **Remove** — the bin on any row.

## What happens when you remove one

Two different things, and Mucka picks whichever protects your history:

- **Nothing's ever used it** — it's deleted outright.
- **Old jobs used it** — it's archived instead. It stops being offered on new work, but those old jobs keep their colour and their times, so your history still reads properly.

**No jobs are ever deleted.** Removing a job type only changes what you're offered next time.

Add the same type back later and Mucka brings the archived one back rather than creating a duplicate.

## The list isn't a menu

Worth knowing, because it catches people out: **you can book a job as anything you like**, whether it's on the list or not. Tell Mucka "book Mrs Jones in for a shower pump swap Tuesday" and it books a shower pump swap, even though that's not one of your types.

The list is a shortcut, not a set of rules. So there's no need to add a type just to get one job booked — only add one for work you'll do again.

## Common gotchas

- **Removing a type that produces a certificate stops those prompts.** If a job type is set to produce a CP12 or similar, taking it off the list means Mucka stops asking for that certificate on new work of that kind. Mucka will tell you when that's about to happen.
- **Renaming isn't the same as removing.** If you just want it called something else, use the pencil — renaming keeps everything attached to it.
- **Can't see the section?** It's owner and admin only, and it's under the **Job setup** sub-tab rather than the first screen you land on.
