> What it means when Mucka says your Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent or Sage connection has stopped working, what happens to your invoices while it's down, and how to get it back.

Every so often the link between Mucka and your accounts software stops working. When it does, Mucka puts a card in your Actions list telling you — you don't have to go looking for it.

## First, the important bit: nothing is lost

**Your invoices and payments in Mucka are completely unaffected.** Every invoice you've raised, every payment you've recorded, every quote — all still there, all still correct, and the customer's copy is unchanged.

What's stopped is the *copy* going across to Xero (or QuickBooks, FreeAgent, Sage). Your books over there have stopped keeping up with Mucka. Reconnect and the two line up again.

This is worth saying plainly because it's the thing people worry about first, and it's the one thing that definitely hasn't happened.

## Why it happens

Usually one of these:

- **Somebody disconnected Mucka at the other end.** Xero and QuickBooks both let you revoke an app's access from inside their settings — easy to do by accident while tidying up connected apps.
- **The password or the account changed.** Changing the login on the accounts side, or removing the user who originally connected it, can invalidate the link.
- **The accounts software withdrew it.** Providers expire connections that haven't been used for a long stretch, and occasionally they simply stop accepting one.

## What the card tells you

The card names the date it dropped and the date anything last actually made it across — so you can see how far behind your books are, not just that they are.

If your accounts software has thrown the connection away permanently, the card says **"It will not come back on its own"**. That's the one to act on: waiting won't help.

If it doesn't say that, the connection might yet recover by itself, so it's worth reconnecting but it isn't an emergency.

<Callout>
A connection that's just quietly refreshing itself in the background raises **no card at all**. That happens routinely and sorts itself out within the hour — there'd be no point buzzing your phone about it.
</Callout>

## How to fix it

1. Go to **Settings → Connections → Integrations** (or just tap **Reconnect it** on the card).
2. Find your accounts software in the list.
3. Tap **Reconnect** and sign in at their end as normal.

That's it. It's the same handful of taps as the first time you connected it.

## If you've moved on from that accounts package

There's a **Remove** button beside Reconnect. Use it when you're not going back — you've switched to something else, or you only ever connected it to try it.

Removing it clears the connection off the screen and stops Mucka asking about it. **Nothing in your accounts software is touched** — the invoices and contacts already over there are your accounting history and they stay exactly where they are.

You'll be asked whether to clear the "synced to Xero" style badges off your Mucka clients and invoices at the same time. Saying yes is usually right once the connection is gone, since those badges point at a link that no longer exists.

## What happens to the invoices raised while it was down

They're sitting in Mucka, correct and complete, waiting. Once you reconnect, new invoices push across as usual.

Anything raised during the outage may need pushing across — if you're not sure whether something's landed, open the invoice and it tells you whether it's reached your accounts software and what it's called over there.

If a lot built up while it was down, [raise a ticket](/help/troubleshooting/get-support-in-the-app) and we'll sort the catch-up with you rather than leaving you to go through them one by one.

## If you dismiss the card

It stays dismissed. Mucka won't put it back the next morning — it'll only come back if the connection genuinely breaks again after you've reconnected it.

So if you're mid-way through switching accounts packages, or you've decided to leave that one behind, you can clear the card and it won't nag.
