Most heating firms aren't only heating. You're gas and boilers most weeks, then there's a bathroom, a leak, a kitchen move. Mucka asked you for one trade when you signed up — that's still your main trade — but you can tick as many more as you actually work.
Tick the trades you work in
- Go to Settings → Business → Details.
- Open the Trades row.
- Pick a trade from Add another trade…. It goes on the list straight away, and Mucka tells you what came with it.
Repeat for everything you do. The trade you signed up with sits at the top marked Main; tap Make main on any other one to move it up there instead.
Each trade you add brings its job types, quote templates and invoice templates across, on top of what you've already got.
Nothing you have is changed or removed. Anything already on your list with the same name is left exactly as it is — including anything you've renamed, re-priced, or switched off. If you've spent six months tuning your Boiler Install template, it stays tuned. Adding the same trade twice does nothing the second time.
What you actually get
Say you're down as a gas or heating engineer and you tick Plumber. You'd gain:
- Job types — Bathroom Install, Kitchen Plumbing, Drain Clearing, Pipe Replacement, Toilet Install, Shower Install, Tap Replacement, Water Heater, Stopcock Repair, Plumbing Inspection.
- Quote templates — Bathroom Refit, Tap Replacement, Cylinder Install.
- Invoice templates — Bathroom Refit Invoice, Repair Invoice, Cylinder Install Invoice.
Everything gas you already had stays where it is.
The templates come with the usual lines already on them, priced as a starting point. Go through them once and put your own prices on — they're yours from then on.
Mucka knows what you do now
This isn't only about templates. Whatever's on that list is what Mucka understands your business to be:
- Ask Mucka for a quote and it expects the work you actually do, instead of assuming everything is a boiler.
- The AI receptionist uses it to judge whether what a caller describes sounds like your kind of job. It won't read your trades out as a list of services or promise a caller a specific job off the back of one — if it isn't sure, it takes a message so you can ring back and say yes or no yourself.
If you want the receptionist to say something more specific about what you do or don't take on, that's the About the business box in your receptionist settings. Your own words there always win.
Taking one off the list
Tap the × next to a trade to take it off.
Nothing is deleted. Those job types and templates are already on real jobs, quotes and certificates, so they stay exactly where they are. Removing a trade just stops Mucka describing your business as doing that work. If you actually want a job type gone, that's Settings → Work → Job types, where you can see what it's used on first.
You can't remove your last trade — add the right one and tap Make main first, then remove the wrong one.
Certificates work differently
Your certificate forms don't come from your trades at all, so ticking one won't add any. Which certificates you can raise comes from the fuels you work with, set separately in your certificate settings — gas, oil and air conditioning. Tick oil and you get the OFTEC paperwork (CD/10, CD/11, the landlord oil check and the rest); tick air con and you get the F-Gas leak check and commissioning records.
Worth knowing: unvented hot water, Legionella risk assessments and chlorination certificates already sit on the gas tab, so if you do those you've most likely got them already.
Starting again instead
Underneath the picker there's a Start again from the defaults button. That one deletes every job type, quote template and invoice template you have and leaves you with only your main trade's defaults.
Only use it if you genuinely picked the wrong trade on day one and want a clean slate. If you're adding a trade, the picker is the one you want.
Common gotchas
- The list isn't a menu. You never needed a job type on your list to book that work. You can type any job type name you like on a job, on the list or not. This just saves you typing the ones you do every week, and gets them a colour on the schedule.
- Duplicates with different wording. Mucka matches on the name, ignoring capitals and spacing. If you'd already added "Bathroom fit" yourself, Mucka's "Bathroom Install" is a different name and you'll end up with both. Delete whichever you don't want under Settings → Work → Job types.
- A trade we don't list. Pick Other / Custom and type it. Mucka will know you do it; the job types and templates you start with are the general ones.
