Every job you create gets its own number: J-001, then J-002, and on down the list. It is yours, not shared with anyone else's business, and it is never reused.
Where it is
Open the job and it's at the top, next to the status. Same on your desktop, in the quick view on your phone, and on the full job page.
It is deliberately not on your diary or your jobs list. Those are for seeing whose job it is and when — a number on every row would just be in the way.
Finding a job by it
Type it into the search box at the top of the screen and the job comes straight up.
That is really what it is for. The number goes out on the customer's calendar invite and it is printed on the job sheet they sign, so when somebody rings up reading it off a screen or a bit of paper, you can find the job without having to ask them what it was about or when you came.
Making it your own
If J-001 is not how you do it, head to Settings → Business → Paperwork and look for Jobs under numbering. It sits with the quote and invoice numbering, and works exactly the same way:
- A prefix of your own — "MCK/", "JOB-", whatever you already use
- How many digits — so you get J-0001 rather than J-1 if you'd rather
- What number to start from — handy if you're carrying on from an old system
Mucka will not let you set a starting number that lands on a job you've already got, so you can't end up with two jobs called the same thing.
Two things worth knowing
The job number is its own thing. It doesn't carry through onto the quote, the invoice or a certificate for that job — those have their own numbering, which you set in the same place.
If your jobs came in from JobLogic, they keep JobLogic's number. You'll see H0015957 rather than J-001 on those, because that's the number you and your customer already say to each other, and a job never carries two. Anything you book in Mucka from now on gets a Mucka number.
