When your engineer finishes, the customer can sign for the work there and then on their phone. It saves against the job, and you get a PDF you can print, email or send on WhatsApp.
It's the thing that ends the argument that starts three weeks later: nobody turned up, it was never finished.
Getting a signature
On the job, under the customer's phone number and email, there's Get the job signed off. It's there on any job your engineer has started. Nothing needs switching on first, and they don't need to ask you.
- Tap Get the job signed off.
- Check who's signing. Mucka fills in the customer's name, and if there's a tenant, landlord or agent on the address it offers them too, one tap each. On a rental it's usually the tenant standing there, not whoever gets the bill.
- Hand the phone over.
- The customer reads the one line they're confirming and taps Sign here.
- They sign on the full screen and tap Save signature. That's it, it's saved.
The signing screen takes up the whole phone on purpose. A little strip is fine if you sign ten a week; it's no good at all for an older customer with an unsteady hand.
Once it's signed, the job shows the signature, who signed and when, in place of the button.
With no signal
This works in a plant room, a cellar or the middle of nowhere. It has to: the signature is the one thing on a job you can't come back and do later, because by the time you're in signal the customer has shut the door.
If you're already on the job when the signal goes, nothing changes. Tap Get the job signed off, hand the phone over, they sign. Mucka tells you Signed. It'll send when you're back in signal, and the job shows the signature in amber with a line saying it's saved on the phone.
If you open the app cold with no signal, you land on your saved work. Open the job and there's a Get the job signed off panel right under the certificate one. Same signing screen from there.
Either way it sends itself the moment you're back in range. There's nothing to tap and nothing to remember. If you send the same signature twice because the signal came and went, Mucka spots it and keeps one.
The only time it can't help is on a phone with storage locked down, usually a private browsing window. It'll tell you straight away, while the customer is still stood there, rather than showing a tick over nothing.
Getting asked automatically
By default Mucka never asks. Most businesses won't want a prompt on every washer change, and the button's always there for the times it matters.
If you do want to be asked, go to Settings → Work → Sign-off and tick Ask for a signature when a job's completed. From then on, whenever anyone marks a job done, the signing screen opens by itself.
If that's too much for every job, leave it off and pick your job types instead. Under Always ask on these job types, tap the ones where it matters, like a bathroom install, landlord work or anything commercial. Mucka asks on those and leaves the rest alone.
Either way your engineers keep the button on every job, so nobody's ever stuck.
Changing the wording
Mucka's own wording is:
I confirm [engineer's name] attended today and completed the work described above.
with a line underneath saying that signing confirms the work was carried out and doesn't affect the customer's right to have any faults put right.
You can write your own in the same settings box. Put {engineer} wherever you want whoever did the work named, and Mucka fills it in.
Two things worth knowing:
Keep it to what happened. A line saying the customer is happy with the workmanship, or that they're waiving anything, doesn't do what it looks like it does. Under the Consumer Rights Act they can still ask you to put faulty work right whatever they've signed, so a sentence like that gains you nothing and gives them something to argue about. What actually settles a dispute is that your engineer was there and the work was done, which is what the standard wording says.
Changing it later doesn't rewrite history. Whatever's in the box gets saved onto each sign-off as the customer signs it. Reword it next month and every sign-off already taken still shows the words that customer actually agreed to.
Finding it afterwards
The sign-off lives with the job's other paperwork. You can:
- See it on the job, on your phone or at the desk
- Open the PDF to print it or save it
- Ask Mucka for it, "send me the sign-off for the Knipoch job", and it'll put it on screen or send it over WhatsApp
If the job's done twice
Some jobs need a second visit. Sign it off again and Mucka keeps both. The new one shows on the job, and the earlier one stays in the job's documents. Nothing gets overwritten, because a signature is a record of something that happened.
