Some businesses call every customer by their first name. Others have always written "Mr Smith", and their whole book is kept that way. Mucka does either — it's one setting and an optional box on each contact.
Put a title on a contact
Open a contact and press Edit, or add a new one. There's a Title dropdown to the left of First Name: Mr, Mrs, Miss, Ms, Mr & Mrs, Dr, Prof, Rev, Mx, Sir, Lady — or pick Other… and type whatever they go by.
Leave it on None if you don't use titles. Nothing changes.
On its own, a title is just recorded. It doesn't appear on anything until you turn the setting on below.
Turn it on
Settings → Business → Paperwork → How you address customers.
Switch on Use their title on paperwork and everything your customer receives addresses them by title and surname:
- Quotes and invoices, on screen and as a PDF
- The printed copies
- The online quote page and the pay page
- The greeting at the top of every email Mucka sends them
So "John Smith" becomes "Mr Smith", and "Mr & Mrs Dixon" stays "Mr & Mrs Dixon".
Nobody ends up without a name
You don't have to fill in a title for all 2,000 customers before turning this on. Anyone without one still gets their full name. A contact with no title carries on reading "John Smith" exactly as before, so the setting is safe to switch on with three titles filled in or three thousand.
The same is true the other way: if we can see a title but no surname to attach it to, you get their name rather than a bare "Mr".
Your own screens don't change
Your contacts list, the schedule, the job cards — they all keep showing first names, because that's what you search by. Typing "John" still finds John Smith. It's only what the customer reads that changes.
Companies
A commercial client is always addressed by its company name, so a title doesn't apply and the box isn't shown. If you deal with a named person there, that goes in Contact name on the company record.
If your book came from Sage or another system
Imports bring titles across where the old system had them. If an import has left something like Mr.R.McKeand sitting in the First Name box, get in touch — we can tidy a whole book in one go rather than you editing them one at a time.
