Before you bring a few hundred customers into Mucka, it's fair to ask where they're going. Here's the short version.
Who's responsible for what
Under UK GDPR, your business is the controller of your customers' details. You decide who goes in and what they're for. Mucka looks after them for you, and only uses them to run Mucka for your business.
Mucka is run by Alright Mucka Limited, registered with the ICO under reference ZC023304. You'll need your own ICO registration too: every UK business that keeps customer details does, and it's about £40 a year from ico.org.uk.
We don't sell personal data.
Where it's stored
- Your customers, jobs, quotes, invoices and certificates are kept in a database in Ireland, inside the EU, and Mucka itself runs from London.
- Everything is encrypted, both while it's being sent and while it's stored.
- Every business on Mucka is walled off from every other. Nobody outside your business can see your customers.
Who on your team can see it
Each person's role decides what they can see and change. An engineer sees their own jobs and the schedule, not your quote and invoice books. See What each role can see, and change it under Settings → Roles.
What goes outside the UK
Some of the companies Mucka uses are in the United States:
- Mucka's AI. When you ask Mucka something, the details it needs to answer go to the AI company that does the thinking, and some of that happens in the US.
- The AI phone receptionist. Call audio is processed in the US, and it comes with its own agreement for you to accept. See The paperwork for answering your phone.
- Texts go out through a US-based provider.
Each of those transfers is covered by the safeguards UK law approves for it. The full list of who does what is in our privacy policy.
Deleting a customer, or a copy of what you hold
- To delete a customer, open them and delete them from their details. Mucka won't let you while they still have work booked in that hasn't been done.
- If somebody asks what you hold about them, or asks to be deleted, or you want a copy of everything, ask Mucka and the team will sort it with you.
- If you close your account, its data is kept for up to 12 months and then deleted, unless the law says something has to be kept longer (invoices, for instance).
Bringing your customers in
Importing from a spreadsheet takes up to 10,000 rows at a time. See Bring your existing clients and jobs in.
