Live Map puts today's round on a map, so you can see at a glance who is where with their work and which jobs are bunched together.
Switching it on
Live Map is a skill. Go to Skills, find Live Map and switch it on. It then appears in the sidebar.
Only owners and managers can open it. It is on the web app — it is not in the iPhone or Android app.
What you see
- Every job booked for today is a small pin at the property's postcode.
- Each engineer is drawn at:
- the job they are on — "Since 09:12",
- otherwise the next one they have — "Next at 14:00", or "On the way · due 14:00" once they have pressed On my way,
- otherwise the last one they finished — "Done 15:40",
- and with nothing on today, at your office postcode.
- The list down the side has everybody on the team; click a name to fly to them.
The map frames the day's work when it opens, and refreshes itself every minute — so when an engineer presses On my way or Arrived, they move without you reloading.
On a phone
Open Live Map in your phone's web browser (not the app) and it fills the screen.
- The bar at the top says how many people are shown and how old the picture is ("5 shown · 1 min ago"). Tap Refresh to read it again now, or the people button for Who to show, where a switch beside each person puts them on or takes them off the map.
- Each engineer's pin has a ring for where they are with their day: orange on site (it pulses), blue next job, red running late, grey free. Running late means their next booked job was due to start more than five minutes ago (or, for a booking with an arrival window, the window has closed) and they haven't started it, nothing more. A job on hold, still to quote or not yet booked in is never late, and one they skipped for later work is not their next.
- Along the bottom is a card for each person: what they're at or have next ("At" the customer they're with, or "Next:" the one they have next), the job and its number, the time ("Since 09:12", "Due 10:30 · 25 min late"), Call and Open job. Swipe along them. Tap a pin and its card comes up; tap a card and the map moves to the pin. Someone whose job has no address Mucka can place says "No address to pin".
- Tap a job pin and the cards make way for that job: its type, customer, address, the time and who's on it, with Open job. The ✕ brings the people back.
Asking Mucka instead
Ask Mucka "Where is everyone?" or "Where's Dave?" and the answer comes with a small map of today's work and a line for each person: what they're on or have next, the postcode, and the time from the diary. That's "since 12:30" if they've started, or the time it's booked for if they haven't. Tap a name to see just their day, with each job numbered in order, and tap a job to open it. Open the schedule map takes you to Live Map. If you don't have Live Map switched on, it says Open the schedule and takes you there instead.
It works off the same job addresses as Live Map, never GPS, so it never says where anyone actually is or when they'll get somewhere. Anyone with nothing booked today is listed as "Nothing booked today" but not put on the map. A job whose postcode Mucka can't place is listed but not pinned. It's for owners and managers. Engineers don't get it. In the iPhone and Android apps you get the list without the map picture.
What it is not
Live Map goes off the job addresses, not GPS. It shows where somebody's work is, not where their phone or van is right now, and it does not track anyone. If an engineer is running between jobs without updating them, the map will not know.
A job whose postcode Mucka cannot place (a typo, or only half a postcode) has no pin. Fix the postcode on the job and it appears at the next refresh.
Coming next
We are working on a live position only while an engineer is driving to a customer — from pressing On my way to arriving — which the customer could follow from a link in their text, a bit like Uber. It needs an update to the apps, so it is not here yet.
