Ask your old software for your data

Moving to Mucka? Ask Mucka to email your old software for your data. It writes the request, reads it back, sends it from your own email when you say yes, and passes the files to the Mucka team when they arrive.

90-second video. We're recording these now.

Most job software keeps something back from its own export buttons: certificates, the diary, invoice history. The way to get the rest is to email their support and ask for it by name. Mucka can write that email for you and send it from your address.

Coming from Payaca? You don't need any of this: Payaca's own export button hands over nearly everything, so Mucka won't write to them. For the few things it leaves out, Get your data out of Payaca has a short email to send them yourself.

What you need first

  • The Inbox skill, switched on under Skills.
  • Your own email connected on the Inbox page. The request has to come from you, because your old software will only hand the data to the account holder.

Ask for it

Tell Mucka which system you're leaving, and anything you particularly want:

"Email Gas Engineer Software for my data, and ask for my diary as well."

Mucka writes the request. It knows what to ask each system for and what their export usually leaves out, so you don't have to. Then it tells you who it's going to and what it asks for, and waits.

Say yes and it goes, from your own email address. Want something changed? Say so and Mucka writes it again before anything is sent.

For Gas Engineer Software, Gas App, Commusoft, ServiceM8, Tradify, JobLogic, Powered Now, Fergus, BigChange and Surefire, Mucka already has the support address. For other systems it will ask you for it. It's usually on their help pages or on an invoice from them.

When they reply

  • Files or a download link come back: a card appears in your Actions saying your data is in. Tap Send to the Mucka team and the files go onto your migration support ticket, or a new one if you haven't got one open. If they sent a link (WeTransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive and the like), Mucka downloads what's behind it for you, so you don't need to open it.
  • They reply without the files (to say they're on it, say): Mucka stops chasing and leaves it there.
  • Nothing comes back in two weeks: Mucka drafts a follow-up in your email for you to send.

Some things are left for the team to fetch by hand, and the ticket says which and why: an attachment over 10MB, a download over 25MB, and a link that wants a sign-in or has expired.

Don't cancel yet

Keep your old subscription going until the Mucka team tells you they've got everything. Once an account is closed, most systems can't get the data back out.
